A great opportunity to experience the rich tradition and culture of Mongolians, during Tsagaan Sar, the Mongolian Lunar New Year, the most important holiday of the nation. Enjoy the festival, visiting local nomad families, trying traditional foods and drinks, playing traditional games and riding horses around one of the most famous National Parks, Terelj.
Ulaanbaatar (hotel pickup and drop-off)
Early in the morning, we will visit the Gandan Monastery to light a zul /a religious candle/ for 1st day of Lunar New Year. Pray and make wishes. Drive to Terelj National Park and we will visit a nomad family. Mongolians usually prepare for the Tsagaan Sar holiday on this day. There you can see them preparing for the holiday. Tonight family members gather together and to eat the main dish of the holiday, steamed dumpling (Buuz). Mostly relatives gather to celebrate Tsagaan Sar Eve. Today everyone should eat till their stomach get full. Overnight in tourist camp.
Today we wake up at 6.00-7.00 am in the morning before the sunrise. According to the tradition, you should make a New Year’s direction and pray for the sacred mountain and Mother Nature. As Mongolian tradition, today people wear new national clothes /deel/, and go to greet the eldest member of the family /mostly grandparents or parents/. Their grandparents or parents greet and kiss the young members of the family as well as visitors. This is called Zolgolt (Greeting). They chat with relatives, eat traditional foods, drink /Airag / mare’s milk, play in ankle bone shooting game /national game/. After this may we visit another family, riding horses. Stay overnight in the tourist camp.
Today we will wander around the Terelj National Park on horseback. We will ride a bit and visit to greet some other families with our host family. In the afternoon drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Overnight in a 3-star hotel.
