Morning flight to Ulgii city of Bayan-Ulgii province, the western part of Mongolia. The majority of the population of this region is the Kazakh ethnic group, with their own culture and own language. At the local airport, you will meet your English-speaking guide, driver and expedition cook. Today we will drive to Khoton Lake, stopping for lunch on the way, and spending the night at the camping site on Biluut Hill. Here you will find ancient rock carvings of the Turkic origin, which are 1500-2000 years old. Total driving time approximately 6 hours. Overnight in a tent (B/L/D)
Today we start hiking, passing Aral Tolgoi pass and reach Khoton and Khurgan Lakes along Tsagaan River. These lakes are the second largest and clearest lakes of Mongolia, the average depth is 26m, and the maximum depth approximately 58m. The Khoton and Khurgan Lakes are connected by a wide natural channel. The landscape around the lakes is very beautiful and picturesque, with snow-capped mountains. The car will follow you. Today we will hike 18km to the base camp of the Tavan Bogd. Our luggage will be transported by camels and their Tuvan handlers are very friendly and helpful. Climb to Malchin Peak, 4050m. This peak is the lowest of the Holy Five Peaks on the border of Mongolia and Russia. The climb takes about 6 to 7 hours, all the way up to the top of Malchin peak. Back to the camp after the climb and relax after a long journey. Overnight stay in a tent. (B/L/D)
